STEVIA

Stevia, more than a sweetener !
For most people, the Stevia is best known as a sweetener, but herbalists and naturopaths, is a medicinal plant with remarkable properties.

Stevia contains a chemical known as stevioside (known as the main sweetener). Stevioside is effective in combating Streptococcus mutans and to limit its acid production. So that’s why the properties of Stevia are known for prevention and fight against tooth decay.

Stevia has hypoglycemic effects for diabetics, this is explained by the action of two other agents, steviol and isostéviol. These agents stimulate insulin secretion by direct action on pancreatic cells (cells that produce continuous insulin is released, but also stored, and thus meet the increase in blood glucose by a rapid release of insulin in the blood).

Studies have shown that regular use of Stevia can be effective against hypertension. Stevia lowers blood pressure (systolic and diastolic blood pressure) and slightly lowers the heart rate. These effects are possibly due to the fact that stevia induced vasodilation of the vessels.

Like other uses of Stevia, we can think of its tonic action which not only fights fatigue, but stimulates mental vitality. It is also useful to facilitate digestion and gastrointestinal functions, but also in cases of diarrhea. Finally, the aesthetic level, it is said that Stevia application softens freckles, age spots caused by the sun, and all other skin blemishes.
